Formed in 1983, the Jayne Marie Dancing School is one of the largest & longest established dance schools in the Dacorum area. With an average of 200 pupils aged between 3 and 18 years, spread over two branches - Hemel Hempstead and Berkhamsted, the school offers classes in ballet, tap, modern, drama and singing. The School follows the Imperial Society of Teachers Dancing syallabi in ballet, tap and modern and children are encouraged to take exams to progress through the grades. Although the children are encouraged to adopt a serious and 'professional' approach to dancing, the school's ethic is that, above all, they should enjoy themselves. Aswell as exams, pupils may participate in an annual Choreography Competition which enables them to perform their own compositions and encourage their own choreography and creativity in dancing, singing and drama. JMDS produces some very professional shows every other year which all pupils are able to take part in. We have won awards for Best Display of the Year for The Nutcracker, & The Wonderful Land of Oz. Individual excellence is encouraged by qualified and experienced teachers. JMDS pupils have used their experience to help gain places at Tring Park, Elmhurst School of Dance, London Studio Centre and Laine Theatre Arts. Others have performed with the English Youth Ballet, The National Youth Ballet and local pantomimes. JMDS 'ex-pupils' have performed in Les Miserables, Whistle Down The Wind, West Side Story, Dance of the Vampires, We Will Rock You, 42nd Street, MTV videos, Boyzone and Take That Tours. Principal, Jayne Wilson has won the British Arts Awards Teacher of the Year Award twice and is placed either 2nd or 3rd most years. Jayne's passion is running the dancing school and making sure the high standards are maintained. All children are very welcome to come and have trial lessons.
Open for seven sessions per week Monday to Friday, from 9.15 am. To 11.45 am.
And 12.30p.m.-2.55p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, providing continuous cover from 9.15 am. to 3.00p.m.
With an optional lunch club every day for one hour.
